Cafferata

Location: St. Joseph New Cemetery Cemetery, Delhi Township (outside Cincinnati), Ohio

This is a family grave stone, the family name is Cafferata. Buried here are Domenic (father), Maria (mother), and Lola Julia (I can only assume daughter). The statue is of a crying woman which is part of the reason I picked it, in a Catholic cemetery full of overtly Catholic imagery here was a grave stone that featured something that was not overtly Catholic. I initially assumed that the statue may have symbolized a woman mourning over the loss of her husband, but the husband actually outlived the wife. I found an image of mourning to be an interesting contrast in a cemetery that otherwise preaches "everlasting life".

  1. I feel a little less freakish about my affinity for graves thanks to you!

Have you ever been to New Orleans?

  2. Not yet, I'd like to go eventually.

The idea for the blog came to me while I was taking some time off of work, I was getting pretty bored at home and had started walking around the graveyard near my house and realized how beautiful a lot of the graves were.
